New Turbine Projects – 500watt to 9Kw wind generators
Upcoming projects to install a 500watt PMA style wind generator on the roof of the house with eventually having up to three or four of them but 1Kw each. The last wind generator turbine project will be a 9.4Kw DC motor which I acquired a year ago capable of putting out about 48v and 280 short Amps at only 380 RPMs. This turbine will by itself generate more power in a day than I can use and thus able to be off grid and sell all the excess.
@laidofftomass It double posted because there are two answers which would not fit in one response (character count limit). The model I purchased was the Home Wind Turbine, 5 Blades, 1200W Hybrid Max/24V – Low Wind. I think if I had to do it over again I would buy their Residential Wind Turbine, 2kW/48V, wind/solar hybrid. It puts out more power for less money with even less wind. I think if you’re in a wind area like mine, this might be a better all around choice.
God Bless
@econewpower Not sure why it double posted but thanks for the info. What model and voltage wind max units did you buy?
@laidofftomass However, the support you get from Missouri Wind and Solar is extremely good and the information he has on his site is outstanding (while the folks that sell the WindMax have almost no information). I have seen YouTube videos (billythekid2010) using MW&S PMA with the 11 blade hub and making very good power early. I can only speak for the 6 bladed set. Good luck!
@laidofftomass In early testing the PMA does not begin turning until about 10 MPH with the 6 blades while the WindMax begins turning at around 5 MPH with 5 blades and begins making charging power at around 8 MPH. So the PMA does not make useful power until about 12 MPH or so (in my observation).
How did the missouri wind and solar compare to the windmax?
@econewpower Wanted to kno whwy you just did not buy more wind max turbines to put on your roof instead of using a reg. PMA?
@mediaman59 I did not make the blades, I ordered them from a guy off eBay, let me know if you want his name and I can try to find it for you. I designed the hub and had it made by CNC from a machinist out of 1/4″ steel. I was only able to get my hands on a 48 tooh hub, a 60 tooth would be very nice. How do you like that PrestoWind unit? Does the RPM to power ratio seem satisfactory? Take care and God bless.
@mediaman59 My faith and love for the Lord is paramount, he blesses me even as I am undeserving. He just took my father to be with him April 7 (two days ago) and although I’m sad, he was saved by Christ long time ago and thus I know he is much better now. God bless and take care.
@mediaman59 Thanks for your comments Mediaman, I did not make the blades, I ordered them from a guy in ebay, if you want his name and I can try to look it up. I designed the hub and had it made out of 1/4″ steel on a CNC. I’d love to see your geared setup, I could only find a 48 tooh pulley. How do you like that PrestoWind unit? Does it have a decent RPM to power ratio?
econepower, awesome videos! I want to thank you for taking the time to document your projects. The new 6 blade prop, was it made from 4″ or 6″ aluminum conduit? Would love to see dimensions posted or a layout of the blades. I am also working on a “gear” driven setup. We have breezes but not a lot of wind. I have a 60 tooth timing pulley on the blades and a 12 tooth on my M-24 PrestoWind. I hope to get it flying soon. Thanks for allowing your faith to show on your videos. mediaman59
@econewpower Yea, but now not getting any volts (all under 12v) under load. I’ve got a couple things I’m gonna try/check but it’s been so freekin windy here lately I can’t work on it. 20-25mph winds all day at least 6 out of the last 14 days!!! Lot’s of 20-30mph gusts. Well, at least I know it’s secure or it would have fell by now. Was a lil wobble when winds were at 41 the other day. Lili nervous but she did fine. Peparing for tornado season, it’s just around the corner.

@natedogg1026 Ha! I wish I had all the time you think I have Nate, I started that dang project in May of last year and still haven’t got to it…but I will this year with renewed resolve. Say – your turbine is looking good – did Jeff ended up swapping that out or was the problem you were having elsewhere?
Another cool project. See, ya got ton’s of time. Why don’t ya come to Kansas and help me w/mine. LOL! Looks promising. Can’t wait to see that big bas@#%d up in the air. Also the roof mounts work sweet with all that momentum you gain from the pitch.I’ll stay tuned.
@OBXSOLWIND Yeah, that’s going to be exciting but it will be a few months away. For sure it will be up and running by end of summer. I have to first install that small PMA on the roof and I have 28 solar panels from Harbor Freight to install first. That will take my solar total 2 KW and my installed wind to another 2KW so after everything is done I’ll have 10Kw of power production available at any time when I have both wind and sun. That will be a happy day
I cant wait to see that thing in action.
Keep us posted.
