how do I build my own personal wind generator to create electricity?

I like the box fan idea, can I just reverse the blades to reverse the motor and create energy instead of use it? Then what?

This is a very in depth project on which you are embarking. There must be a regulation stage and a protection stage at the very least.

Regulation stage:
AC current regulation to 1phase 60hz 120VAC

Protection stage:
Over voltage and spike protection

Remember that you will only have power when your blades are spinning. Also, those fan motors don’t take a ton of power to turn. They will correspondingly only output a small amount of power. Check to see if it can even function as a generator without overheating and burning out.
