Homemade Wind Generator? Where can I find information on building a Homemade Wind Generator?
Does anyone know where to find GOOD information on how to build a homemade wind generator? There are a lot of web sites out there that have little to no information on actually building one. I would prefer to have free information on building a homemade wind generator as apposed to purchasing the plans to build the wind generator. If anyone has any good sites, or has detailed plans/instructions to build a homemade wind generator please let me know!

go buy an I.C.E. generator, take it apart, and replace the motor with a windmill. Just make sure that you don’t try to hook it up to your home wiring while you still receive power from the utility. Or else we’ll read about it in the paper. People who have the kind of information you are looking for don’t give it away for free, so you have to figure it out yourself.
As stated before, most people won’t give that information for free. HOWEVER. A basic knowledge what is happening in a wind generator can give you a good start. A wind turbine has a generator inside of it. The blade’s turn, which in turn rotates a magnet inside a tightly wrapped coil of copper wire. What else does this that you use every day? An alternator, just like the one in your car. If you could fabricate some blades and make sure its turning well then you have the beginnings of a wind generator. You then would have to get a charge controller, which will keep the power from frying your batteries, and an AC/DC converter to convert the direct current power to alternating current power, depending on what you want to use it for. The easiest part is building the tower, just pick any design. I did this once, and it took a while to charge on large deep cycle battery, for the price you could build 100 of these instead of buying a large one. Good luck, and be careful not to shock yourself. Build everything and connect BEFORE you let the turbine start spinning.
Hope that helps.
Its tough to find good FREE information online, most people are looking to make money off of you. I have found a few credible sources, one of them is http://www.myhomemadewindgenerator.com He has a lot of scattered information on Homemade Wind Generators, but a lot of it is quality information. He also gave me his email personally, which is admin@myhomemadewindgenerator.com. He has answered a lot of questions via email for me. He goes over in depth plans on how to build stators for a generator using strong pull magnets, also has some info on how to do the blades on your homemade wind generator.
