Cheap, Easy, Solar power for my A/C?

I have an electric A/C in the window. Is there a cheap, easy way to run it on solar power? The A/C unit is on the north side of the house. I've seen battery-maintainers at auto parts stores. Can I buy one, a deep cycle battery, and an inverter? How many watts does a window A/C need?

  1. Air conditioners draw a *lot* of current. I can’t give you exact figures, but the number of solar cells and batteries needed would not be cheap. Those car battery maintainers only produce a few milliwatts of power at best, and none of the inverters you find at auto parts stores are strong enough to run a hair dryer or a space heater, so they definitely won’t run an A/C.
